You don't get on top by being terrible at this game (though sometimes numbers can offset large quantities of terrible), and administering such an organization can be a tremendous undertaking. Learn from the best, and emulate their success.
At times starting smaller and working up can be an adventure. My own experience was joining a middle ground WH corporation from recruiting (Bite Me Inc.). I was there to watch the corporation, and then the alliance that it founded (Narwhals Ate My Duck), grow into one of the WH powerhouses and pretty much the go-to merc group for all of your WH needs.
For a look at WH PvP (mostly higher end stuff) check out http://failheap-challenge.com/showthread.php?144-Wormhole-Space-%2833-posts-deleted-and-counting%29 this thread in the War and Politics portion of FHC.
While raiding WHs is fun and all, you may eventually feel the need for purpose, at which point I suggest trying to live in a WH C2 to C4. When you are large enough, try out the higher end WHs. The higher you go, the more likely you will run into expensive ships; a fleet composed entirely of capital ships, Tech 3's, pirate battleships (Bhaalgorns and Vindicators [more of the former, if I am honest my Vindicator gives me a hardon, so I kinda have to include it]), and, where triage carriers are absent, Logistics.
If you live in w-space, your pod is your life. As such, getting your own pod out and podding others is very important. Non-consensual PvP happens, bubbles happen, but not as much or as often as if you are throwing your nullsec blob at another nullsec blob. The mass limits mean that focusing more isk and effectiveness into a lower mass is very important, so T3s really rule there.
POS: Make sure it is secure. The password should be a long and random string of letters and numbers, while you simply set corp / alliance use on said POS. Make sure you have roles worked out. One set of SMAs should have very limited access, allowing the CEO and directors to store both their own and others' shinies away from the hands of a potential thief. Another option is to set up a POS for a small group of players to limit how much an individual (non-director OFC) can steal. Starbase management should be very limited and only expanded to others if the POS is about to run out of fuel. Do not leave shiny ships floating in space, [DUCK] or another group will probably shoot it just for the shinies or the hope that you will PvP to defend it (we really won't if it is in C4 or below, but others will. If others hire us to, we will ofc.).
D-scan - Watch it. Constantly scan for incoming WHs, otherwise you might be surprise dropped by someone and get a nice http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_related&kll_id=9965364 KM or two. (Alternatively, if you are fat, rich, and lazy like myself, don't even bother to watch it at all.)
Be sure to check out http://www.staticmapper.com/ Static Mapper. Be warned though, Static Mapper is based on human input and is thus not entirely accurate. For a more accurate picture, check out the constellation (if the system is a C6) or region (likehttp://www.staticmapper.com/index.php?region=Unknown+%28R25%29 this, note the two systems that show two statics, that is incorrect. All of the systems of that region are similar). Also, Static Mapper is silly slow now.
A note on living in the relative safety of C1s (where you can build capitals (that, like capitals anywhere C1-C4 are born and will die in the system in which they were built) if you really want and an enemy is limited to BC sized hulls if the enemy does not set up a POS and start building stuff in your home that will never leave there), these systems are much less secure with the addition of the new Tier 3s. If the pos guns are taken down or do not do enough damage, these Tier 3's will rip through those shields like a heated knife through 1,000,000 m of butter (as compared to a plastic spoon recently taken from the refrigerator through a similar amount of butter).
EDIT: CCP, your BBC code is so ****** up. It looks so much nicer if the hyperlink chat thing works. |
